Key points

  • A window company pays for a website in one of three ways: its own time on a DIY builder, a one-off agency build, or a managed monthly plan.
  • Compare the cost over the years you will use the site, including hosting, edits and your own hours, not just the first invoice.
  • Our managed plan costs A$249 a month plus A$499 setup (GST may apply), which is A$3,487 across the 12-month minimum term.
  • Set the cost against the value of one window job, which sourced installers put in the thousands of dollars.

A website for a window company in Australia costs either your own time on a DIY builder, a one-off fee for an agency build plus ongoing hosting and edits, or a fixed monthly fee for a managed plan. The right choice depends less on the first invoice and more on who keeps the site accurate as your products, prices and service areas change.

This article sets out what sits inside each option and how to compare them fairly over three years. We sell one of these options, a managed plan, so we have kept the other two generic and stated our own price in full. You can check every detail on our pricing page.

The three ways to pay for a website

Every window company website is paid for in money, time or both. The three common routes spread those costs differently.

One-off agency buildHighHosting, plus paid editsThe agency, per job

A DIY website builder

A DIY builder has the lowest cash cost and the highest time cost. You pay a subscription and do the building, writing, photo editing and updating yourself.

For a window business the time adds up in specific places. Each product type needs its own page, the quote form needs the right fields, and the gallery needs your photos resized and labelled. Templates are rarely designed around a measure-and-quote business, so expect to adapt a general trade layout.

It suits an owner who enjoys the work and has evenings free. It suits less well if updates slip for months, because a site that still lists a discontinued frame range or an old phone number costs you enquiries quietly.

A one-off agency build

A one-off agency build means a larger payment upfront for a site designed to your brief, then separate costs for hosting and any changes afterwards.

The advantage is a site made for your business, often with more custom design. The questions to ask before signing are about what happens after launch:

  • Who hosts the site, what does that cost each year, and who applies security updates?
  • How are edits charged, such as adding a new product range or a new service area?
  • Who owns the domain, the design and the content if you part ways?
  • Can you edit prices and photos yourself, and will doing so break anything?

Window companies change more than they expect: new suppliers, colour ranges, glass options, rebate programs and service areas. A build that is expensive to update tends to fall behind.

A managed monthly plan

A managed plan spreads the cost into a setup fee and a fixed monthly fee that covers the build, hosting and a set amount of ongoing changes. You supply the content; the provider lays it out and keeps it running.

Here is exactly what our plan costs and covers:

  • A$499 setup and A$249 a month, GST may apply.
  • A 12-month minimum term, then month to month.
  • Your site live within 14 days of receiving your content.
  • Hosting, SSL certificate and security updates.
  • Up to 5 content edits a month, such as a new product photo, changed prices or an added suburb.
  • A monthly report of the enquiries your website received.

It does not include paid ads, logo design, writing your content or domain registration fees. The trade-off is the minimum term: you commit to 12 months. See everything included for the detail.

Comparing the cost over three years

The fair way to compare website options is the total over the years you expect to use the site. For our plan that total is simple to calculate because the price is fixed.

Total cost of our plan over time (AUD, before any GST) Setup plus monthly fees for the Window Company Websites plan: month 1 A$748, month 12 A$3,487, month 24 A$6,475, month 36 A$9,463. After month 12A$3,487

To compare a DIY builder on the same basis, add the subscription for 36 months to a realistic value for your own hours building and updating. For an agency build, add the build fee, three years of hosting and the edits you are likely to need. Ask each provider for those figures in writing.

Remember that search results take time whichever route you pick. Google notes that some changes to a site take effect in search in a few hours to several months 1 , so judge any website over more than a few weeks.

Weighing it against a window job

A website cost only makes sense next to the value of the work it helps you win. Window jobs are large purchases, and published installed prices from Australian window companies show why.

Installed prices reported by window companies (AUD) Reported installed prices: double glazed awning window $2,200 to $2,800; double glazed sliding door $3,500 to $4,500; Perth 3 bedroom home double glazing package $18,000 to $20,000; Melbourne whole-home window replacement $15,000 to $40,000 or more. Whole home, Melbourne$15,000 to $40,000+

One Melbourne company reports that replacing all the windows in a typical 3 bedroom home costs $15,000 to $40,000 or more 2 installed. A Perth company puts a full double glazing package for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home at $18,000 to $20,000 3 . Smaller jobs still run to thousands: a double glazed sliding door at $3,500 to $4,500 2 and an awning window at $2,200 to $2,800 2 .

We can't tell you how many jobs any website will bring, and nobody honestly can. The useful question is narrower: over a year, would a clearer site help you win enough extra work, or waste fewer measure visits, to cover A$3,487? Businesses doing whole-home replacements and businesses doing double glazing and retrofits will answer that differently from a glazier doing small repairs.

What to do next

  1. Write down what your current site costs each year, including hosting, edits and your own time.
  2. List the changes you made to your products, prices or service areas in the last 12 months.
  3. Ask each provider for a three-year total in writing, and who owns the domain and content.
  4. Check the minimum term and cancellation terms before you sign anything.
  5. Read what a window company website needs so you compare like with like.

What a website costs a window company comes down to money, time and who keeps it accurate. A DIY builder is cheap in cash and expensive in hours. A one-off build costs more upfront and more each time you change something. A managed plan fixes the cost and hands over the upkeep, in exchange for a minimum term. Compare all three over three years and against the value of your jobs. If a fixed monthly plan fits the way you work, book a call and we will tell you plainly whether it suits your business.

Questions window company owners ask

Is the setup fee refundable?

On our plan the A$499 setup fee pays for building your site, so it is not refunded once the build has started, except where the law says otherwise. The plan terms set out cancelling in full, including what happens during the 12-month minimum term.

Do I own my domain name on a managed plan?

You should. Ask any provider whose name the domain is registered in. On our plan the domain is registered in your business name, you pay the registrar directly, and you can point it elsewhere if you leave.

Does a more expensive website bring more quote requests?

Not by itself. Nobody can honestly promise a number of enquiries or a search position. What a better site does is make it easier for people who find you to understand your products and book a measure and quote.

Are paid ads included in a website price?

Usually not, and they are not included in our plan. Google Ads or social media ads are a separate service with their own ad spend, paid to the ad platform.
